Verified I have driven past Archie's countless times over the past decades (going back to when it was Golden Rule), but I finally got to eat there for the first time! You walk in and the aroma of smoking meat surrounds you. The open kitchen with the BBQ pit in the back is surrounded by booths and tables, creating a warm and casual setting that is perfect for a family meal. The staff were universally friendly, not just our waitress but all the other servers and kitchen staff. They greeted us all with smiles and interacted kindly with my baby and toddler. The food was hearty and homey, with generous portions. We enjoyed a burger, pulled pork sandwiches, a corn dog, fries, baked beans, and a fried peach pie with vanilla ice cream. The burger was cooked fresh and perfectly grilled. The pulled pork was smoky and tender, but the sauce was a little more vinegary than I prefer. The fries were perfectly crisp and golden. My kiddo gave a huge thumbs up for his corn dog and the beans were a hit with the baby. The peach pie tasted like something my grandma would have made, warm and sweet and comforting. And if you like sweet tea so sweet you get cavities just looking at it, Archie's is the place for you (I had to do half and half myself).

Verified Took a friend there for lunch who had never been, ordered hamburgers and split an order of fries (always enough to share). Food arrived very quickly and was hot. Good quick 'grab lunch' kind of place. Nothing fancy about it, the wait staff is friendly, efficient, prices are reasonable, and quantities are sufficient. Have not tried the bbq but several people there had ordered what looked like pulled pork and everyone seemed happy to be there.

Verified Hamburger steak was great. I just wish they had other side options. All they have is fries, slaw, baked beans. Wish you could get a baked potato or a side salad. Or even a salad with choice of meat on it. My server - she was very nice. Checked on me often. Ambience. It's an old restaurant. Not much to say about it.

Verified This is a good bbq joint. Full of lots of repeat customers. All very friendly. I had the hamburger steak with gravy and onions. It was really good. I ordered the small portion. It was plenty for me. It comes with two sides. They only have four options (slaw, baked beans, fries and potato chips. I try to eat on the healthier side so the sides don't fit with me. I got the slaw. Wish they had vegetables or a small salad. Service is great. Very friendly and attentive. Most employees have been there for a while (years). Service really makes a difference. Two customers told me to get one of their fried pies and I was tempted. But didn't order it because it doesn't fit in with my healthy eating plan. It looked good. The restaurant is a typical kind of old school bbq joint. Nothing fancy but I don't need that from a good bbq place. Smells great in there. I will try the pork next time or stick with hamburger steak. Just wish they had one or two more sides.

Verified This is an excellent bbq restaurant. Katelyn is an excellent waitress and the food was delicious. Finally an Alabama restaurant that takes pride in serving hot fries!! Ambiance here is awesome. Dining room is clean and comfortable and they clean up tables as soon as the guest leaves. I highly recommend this restaurant

Verified Best burgers in Bham It’s a BBQ place but we go there for the burgers. Get the jumbo. It’s 1/2 pound. My 6’8” son has them custom make a double. Not cheap but very good. IMO, best burgers in Bham.

Verified SO GOOD. Stayed in Hoover to see Alabama win a squeaker. Love this place and will be back. Everything was so good.I had the bar b a sandwich and the homemade hamburger. Not sure which I will get next time, as they both were so good. My friend visiting wanted some good Barbq and this place knocked it out of the park. I will definitely stop on the way to Tuscaloosa again with family. SO GOOD.

Verified Good food great staff but crowded The only bad reviews I saw were people whining they were republicans or those that liked him and nicks better (which I think sucks) so we gave Archie's a try. Glad we did! Food was cooked well, staff was phenomenal, and prices were better than other local or chain places. The hamburger was a solid homeatyle burger. The sliced pork was very tender and juicy. The Cole slaw is vinegar based but with enough sugar in it that the flavor was nicely mild and balanced. Portions were very good as well. We will be back..but probably at a less busy time. The noise plus crowded tables had me practically bolting out the door as soon as we paid.

Verified Fantastic Little Gem This is a vintage restaurant with solid food and outstanding service. Cozy atmosphere makes you feel like family as soon as you walk in. I got barbecue but my daughter’s burger made me wish I had gotten a burger instead. Yum! Fries are delicious and sweet tea is FABULOUS. Don’t miss it. I just wish we had ordered dessert!
